Grand Slam Titles Timeline
1999: At age 17, Williams won her first major title at the U.S. Open. It was the first overall for the family.
2002: Williams wins her second grand slam title at the French Open.
2002: Serena defeats her sister, Venus Williams, who was a two-time defending champion at Wimbledon.
2002: Serena defeats her sister, Venus, again, who was the two-time defending champion at the U.S. Open. Ranked Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) world number 1 for the first time in her career, at age 20.
2003: Her braids were on Fleek! Serena beats sister Venus, again, at the Australian Open.
2003: Again, Serena defeats Venus at Wimbledon.
2005: Williams wins her second Australian Open title, this time beating Lindsay Davenport.
2007: An unseeded Williams, ranked 81st in the world, beats Maria Sharapova, who at the time was the top seed.
2008: Williams wins her third U.S. Open.
2009: Williams wins her 10 national title and fourth Down Under title at the Australian Open.
2009: Serena beats big sister again at Wimbledon. It was the last time they competed against each other for a Grand Slam Title.
2010: Williams wins the Australian Open, again.
2010: Williams wins at Wimbledon, again.
2012: Williams wins at Wimbledon, again.
2012: Williams wins the U.S. Open, again. Her career earnings were at a whopping $40million.
2013: Williams wins at the French Open. During this year, becomes the oldest female tennis player to be ranked number 1 since computer rankings began in 1975. This is the sixth time in her career to be ranked number one.
2014: 15 years after winning her first Grand Slam Title, Williams wins the U.S. Open.
2015: Williams wins the Australian Open.
2015: Williams wins the French Open.
2015: Williams wins the French Open. She’s only two titles away from tying with Steffi Graf.
