A Single Mom, Sick and
Saved to Survive
Iirana Caldwell
What was it like to be a single mother?
Sometimes it was hard playing both roles (mother & father. All decisions were
on my shoulder and at times it was a lot to bare but, I did it.
What obstacles did you face?
Having no one to turn to, who understood my situation was difficult.
No matter if I was sick or not, I had to continue on. It was always on me to
provide for my children. I also was sick with various illnesses including LUPUS.
How did being a single mother hinder you from reaching your dream?
When I became pregnant, I was going to join the Airforce, which was my dream.
But, I guess God had other plans for me.
Do you have any regrets?
No, I entered the US government and retired from there. This career helped me
provide for my children in the best way I could.
How did you survive being a single mother?
I had a good support system and spiritual guidance. God was my source and I
made it through because of Him.
What advice would you give single moms today?
Keep your head up and push on. When they say you can’t, you say I can. Have
Faith in God and He will see you through.
