Portugal: A destination suitable for all

P

ortugal: a country of stunning natural beauty,
with almost 1 000km of wrap-around coastline
on the Atlantic. The history, the culture, the
food and wine, coupled with a temperate climate
that’s far more pleasant than in many other parts of
Europe.
Having once been the poor cousin of its wealthier
neighbours, Portugal has in recent years established
itself as far stronger economically, not least because
of its buoyant tourist industry. Ranked 38th in the
World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness
Report, the economy is growing steadily, and the

relatively high unemployment figures prior to 2012
are declining. All in all, the Portuguese nationality is
today well-regarded – not least because Portugal is a
member of the European Union.
Along with most European nations, Portugal ranks
as one of the top nationalities in the world on The
Henley & Partners – Kochenov Quality of Nationality
Index. The ranking of 16 out of 161 positions reflects
the strength of the country in terms of its economy,
education and health facilities, the standard of living,
and the peace and stability enjoyed by those living
there.
