Springing forward with children ' s books
As new life springs forth from the earth as the sun draws closer and warms the soil , authors continue to also breathe new life into their books for the enjoyment of their readers . The topics are many and varied . I ' m sure there is something out there to fill everyone ' s reading pleasure .
In Baltimore County , Maryland , the Essex Seniors Writers Guild ( which meets at the Essex Senior Center ), the writers have submitted a couple of poems each . A few have submitted one or three , and the “ featured poet ” is honored to have submitted eight poems . These seniors are glowing with pride as their efforts are launched with their very first book . The Essex Senior Center will show their continued support with a book launch ceremony on April 28 .
One of those Essex seniors , Doris Mitchell , is still glowing and traveling to book signings having launched her first novel on January 2 to kick-off a fabulous 2015 . The book , “ Warrior : The Morgantown Songbirds – Volume 1 ,” is a novel that is part fiction and
part history using the Mitchell-family-tree as a basis for this novel . Volume 2 of the story is already in the final draft stage and editing stage . Mitchell has already traveled to her family ' s hometown to do a book signing there and has several other book signings scheduled to promote the historical facts of an Indian tribe that held black slaves .
This spring also has collaborations occurring between Vanessa Fortenberry ( Decatur , Georgia ), Lynn Calvin ( Catonsville , Maryland ) for young readers ; Teleah Scott ( Baltimore , Maryland ) for teen readers ; and this writer , Anna Renault ( Essex , Maryland ) for children of all ages . Efforts are being made to promote our children ' s books with a wider audience .
Fortenberry realized the importance of her grandchild ' s question , “ Momma , I want to see God .” Using that statement , Fortenberry produced a terrific book to help parents explain their belief in God without being able to physically see the Lord .
Calvin also uses her belief in God to share her book with others . “ I have two daddies – An Earthly Daddy and a Heavenly Daddy ” aims to share with children that they will
