Make up tips The Right Eye Shadow for Your Eye Colour As a makeup artist I always get asked various questions about makeup and one of the most popular ones is, ‘What eye shadow to choose for my eye colour?’’. There are so many eye shadow brands, types and colours available to purchase, there is no wonder why you lovely ladies get lost in this big colourful world of makeup. Here are some tips of what would work best for your eye colour. The key thing to remember is that you want your eye colour to stand out not to extinguish it. The most important tip is to try and stay away from the same colour eye shadow as your eye colour. Why? Because matching your eye shadow to your eye colour can look monochromatic, they will just blend in together, so try and avoid this. You need to bring out the colour of your eyes, make them pop. It doesn’t mean that you can’t ever use the same eye shadow as your eye colour, you can, but it won’t compliment your eyes as much. Blue eyes Picture by Albert Pocej 42 The right makeup should enhance the natural blue of your eyes. As it is a cool colour, warm shades, will compliment your eyes best. Choose earthy colours such as browns, taupe and slate colour greys. Also, champagne, golden copper, rust, terracotta, coral, rose, peach and neutral shades. For a night out try dark plum, violet, black or even deep blue shades. For day time, instead of black eye liner use dark brown, as black can be overpowering. In fact, dark brown mascara will complete the look nicely if you wear warm or bronze tones as an eye shadow. Green eyes If you have green eyes, warm shades such as bronze, gold and copper will look fabulous on you. Purple, lavender, plum or lilac shades are also great choices but try to avoid blue shades. Black eye liner can be overpowering especially on green eyes so it is better to use dark brown, grey or even plum shades. If you are a black liner addict try to swap it for charcoal. Choose mascara in brown tones too; leave the black for a night out. Brown eyes If you have brown eyes you are a lucky lady! As it is a neutral colour you can get away with almost any eye shadow colour. One of the best colours that look great on brown eyes is purple. Blue, teal, green, silver and metallic tones such as gold, bronze, browns and pink also work well with brown eyes. As for neutrals, go for chocolates, coppers and taupes. An eye liner and mascara could be anything from deep navy blue, green, purple, plum, grey or black.
