C A R R E V I E W BMW i8 The nice people in the corporate team at Chandlers in Portslade invited me to test drive something that they seemed a little excited about, a plugin hybrid supercar. On first glimpse the only possible reaction is ‘wow’, this car is stunning to look at with its futuristic lines. The car was in a tasteful Sophisto Grey which made it look mean and muscly, the wheels were a 20” turbine spoke style that sported a low profile tyre, warning me that this car was going to be quick. The car was low to the ground and if the wheels had been covered it would look like it hovered. As a kid I would have had a poster of this on the wall. Getting into the car for the first time was an adventure. Whilst the gull-wing door opened effortlessly, getting over the deep sill into the low seat was far from graceful. However, once inside it was like being in a spaceship built for me. The sporty seats fitted my ample contours beautifully and the controls were exactly where I wanted them. An 8.8” central display allowed me to control pretty much everything about the car down to what colour I wanted the interior trim lights to be.
