Re: Winter 2015 | Page 18

only other Sussex link is my good friend Carrie who I’ve known for around 15 years now but we usually meet in London to split the distance! How did you meet your husband and how do you find living in the northeast? I met Michael in 2007 when I was in Newcastle doing panto! I was on a night out with the dancers and the band from the show and Michael was out on his Christmas work’s do! I had dark hair at the time and he had no clue who I was. I probably wouldn’t have talked to him if he did! I totally fell in love with the city and the people and I was well ready for a change. As our relationship progressed it just felt right for me to move to the North East plus I already had friends in the area. I love that we are so close to the sea. The air is clean and there’s no traffic compared to London. People talk to each other and Michael’s family are wonderful people and look after me well! It’s a slower pace of life and that agrees with me. What do you to relax? As a mum it is rare to find time to relax as there’s always something to do but we try to leave our Sundays free as much as possible. We love to have a lazy morning and snuggle on the sofa watching movies. If we’re lucky nana will cook a Sunday roast and have a family get together at her house. We get the vinyl out, drink wine and play records. 16 Do you have any unusual hobbies or habits? I’ve recently taken up roller-skating again! We used to go as a family every weekend when I was growing up. In fact me, my dad and sister still have our skates! So, I jumped at the chance when my friend Avril invited us skating at the beginning of the holidays. We took the kids with us (as an excuse) and loved every minute! Now me and Benjamin go once a week. He’s getting really good and it’s great exercise for me! Where do you like to go on holiday and why? We are just about to go on a trip of a life time to the glass igloos in Kakslauttenan in Finland! I’ve always wanted to see the Northern lights for real and it will be a magical experience for Benjamin. During the summer with the family we have found ourselves booking one cruise after the other! There are some amazing ships these days. You have everything you need at your fingertips - entertainment, a choice of restaurants, pools, gym, spa and kid’s club and you get to see the world! What projects are you working on at the moment – what can we expect next? I’m a bit of a Jack of all trades right now. I currently host two weekend radio shows – The Ultimate 90s Selection and Sunday Night Ballads for Mercury Radio Spain. I also have a couple of gigs left with “Audience with” big band swing show that I’ll be taking out again next year. I am going to be a judge for a North East TV show called ‘Made on the Dance Floor’ which is going to be great fun and then I have a short film called Acheron I’ll be shooting before going into panto rehearsals. I think I’m going to take January off then look for some more theatre for next year. And I’m going back into the studio and working with some brilliant new writers in Cardiff which will be a brand new project. That’s the thing about this industry - you have no idea what will come up next … and I guess that’s why I love it… By Liza Laws
