LE When you left 12 years ago and you
went to Tottenham did you think ‘oh one
day I’m gonna be back here’ because
you’ve been voted as the best ever player
for the Albion?
BZ Yeah it’s nice, I mean, the biggest
thing for me now is trying to do myself
justice. A few people said to me don’t go
back because you know it could all go
horribly wrong but I just want to do myself
justice. I just want to help the team. I’m
not saying I’m gonna score 30 goals or
anything like that but I just want to try and
help so yeah that’s, that’s how it is really.
LE You started off brilliantly though
haven’t you? We’ve waited a while and
then we got two in two games and not
tap-ins either Bobby. They had your
hallmark all over them.
BZ Yeah both nice finishes and nice that
they managed to get the three points in
both games but to be honest I think in
those games we should’ve had it wrapped
up and I’d much prefer to come on at 3-0
up to be honest. I’d much rather do that
and have three points already than have to
try and get them in the last few minutes.
LE 83 goals in 134 appearances in your
102
first spell, there were loads of highlights
for you but have you one particular
moment that stands out for you?
BZ Yeah just so, so many. I don’t think I
could put my finger on one.
LE What’s the first thing you think of if you
think of a highlight, what’s the first one
that springs to mind from that first spell?
BZ Probably, not so much a game,
probably the training, keep the ball in the
box that we used to do in the morning
before, it was just always fun.
LE Who was the manager back then?
BZ Micky Adams was the first. Obviously
there’ve been a few managers Peter
Taylor and Steve Coppell, so in terms of
managers it’s been brilliant as I’ve learnt a
lot off all those guys.
LE Your current manager accepted…
you’ve worked for so many different
managers. Who in your opinion was best
for you?
BZ That’s a really hard one because
honestly, I’ve had a lot but they all been
very, very good
LE That’s a diplomatic answer!
BZ Yeah I think I’ve said Roy Hodgson in
the past to be honest at Fulham.
LE You played in the Europa league there
of course.
BZ Yeah he obviously took us to the final
there. And he was just very organised
and so drilled that into us. I think I could
probably have played left-back in that
team. Everybody knew where they had to
be at certain times.
LE You then made a move to Spurs but
after only 16 appearances there, you
moved onto West Ham where you played
with the likes of Carlos Tevez and Javier
Mascherano who of course is now at
Barcelona, what was it like playing at
West Ham?
BZ Yeah that’s obviously the team I grew
up supporting so it was an absolute
honour to play for them and I had some
great times there as well. Genuinely every
club that I’ve been at has been good,
so I’ve certainly had a very good career
and it’ll be great if we can top it off with
Brighton getting into the Premier League.
