Sussex Crawley Town FC WEST Sports By Laurence Elphick Brighton & Hove Albion FC While other teams in the Championship appear to be snapping up any good players that become available, the Albion appears to be struggling to reach the heights that the Amex has been accustomed to. Two places above the drop zone and only two wins out of the last 15 games in all competitions have made the natives restless. Added to that, all four teams below them have changed their managers already in a bid to improve their situation. Immense pressure then on Sami Hyypiä. At the time of writing, Hyypiä remains in charge, with the backing of chairman Tony Bloom, despite growing uncertainty. All eyes seem to be looking towards the January transfer window to see which players are going to come in. What is certain and appears to be unanimous whoever you speak to, is that the Seagulls need a target man, a big striker - well someone who can score the goals. The fact that defender Lewis Dunk is top of the scoring charts for Brighton after four months says it all. That said, I am delighted for him. He’s a player WLEY TOWN FC CRA who just seems to be revelling under pressure and growing in confidence with every game. One question - Glenn Murray? Ok, he committed the ultimate football sin and signed for arch-rivals Crystal Palace but now the Eagles have loaned him out to Reading, where he’s scoring again? Why did we not even get a sniff of getting him back, when Muzza still lives in Hove? Maybe Palace refused, maybe we tried but I for one would have welcomed him back with open arms. Targets, well I suspect a certain Mario Balotelli might be available soon, and with Sami’s contacts at Liverpool! If Liverpool pays his wages, a loan spell lower down, a chance to get his confidence back, you just never know. Ok ok, I know I’m talking rubbish but one can dream. On a positive note, it’s absolutely brilliant to see Elliott Bennett back at the Club, albeit only on loan from Norwich. Welcome back Benno. Last time you played in the Blue and White we got promoted. Imagine the crosses from Benno and the headers from a Muzza-esque player. If only we can find him! As one manager used to say, `keep the faith`. Fifteenth in League One by midNovember, Crawley could say their season is summed up in one word ‘frustrating’. After only one win in six games, manager John Gregory was said to be ‘considering his position’ after the match against Crewe Alexandra ended in a 1-1 draw, though he has since said that he was just letting off steam. However, going out of the FA Cup at the first round stage and losing at home to Gillingham in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy won’t have helped lighten the mood. SU SSEX NOLI CEDERE 18 96 Everyone 6
