and perfectly defined effect. Choose extra black mascara and apply a few coats if necessary. It will make a big difference! Of course if you are a fan of false lashes then now is definitely the time to get them out! Another great trick is to line your lower waterline with a white or nude waterproof eye liner, this way your eyes will appear bigger and brighter. Give it a go and you will be surprised. Don’t forget your eyebrows too. They are probably your most important facial feature. Shaping and shading make an incredible difference. Most brows have some thin places that need to be filled in, here’s how. Firstly comb through your brows. Secondly make sure you choose the right shade pencil which is blendable or eyebrow powder. Make sure to choose a colour that closely matches your natural hair colour. Try to avoid using a black pencil even if you are very dark, use dark brown instead. Thirdly apply the colour with light feathery strokes and comb through again to blend the pencil or powder for a more natural look. Lastly set it with clear brow gel, if you don’t have one, hair spray on a comb or an old clean mascara brush will also do the trick. It will look neat and keep your brows in place. One of the party makeup tips which could save you time is to mix your liquid foundation with your moisturiser. Mix them together in your hand and then apply them on your face just like a regular lotion, you can save precious time this way! If you desire more coverage, sweep some finishing powder over it. Powder will also absorb the oils from your skin and will keep it matte and stop your skin from shining. Next apply some blusher; it will make your face glow and look warm and lively. You can use a cream blusher for your cheekbones, as this is easier to apply and in turn can also help you save time. If you don’t have a cream blusher, use your lipstick! Apply a small amount on your finger, tap it on your cheeks using circular motions and blend it in with a clean finger. Finally put some lipstick on! You can use the same lipstick as on your cheeks to get a great finish, as this will help you light up the entire look of your face. If you decided to make your lips as a statement of your look, use vampy reds, moody berries and rich, heady wine colours as they are this season’s hottest colours. If you want to obtain a softer effect, you can apply your lipstick by using one of your fingers. Set Eyes Eyes narrower than one eye width are regarded as close set. Use light colours in the inner corners, and extend the outer corners using dark colours. When it comes to liner, only line 2/3 of your eye and mascara on outer corners as it helps eyes look further apart. Avoid dark colours and eyeliner in the inner corner. Wide Set Eyes Opposite of close set. Distance between your eyes is wider than the width of one eye. The key is to reduce the space between your eyes by making them look closer together. Use darker colour eyeshadows on the inner corner of your eyes and blend up into the crease. Use a lighter colour all over the rest of your lid and brow bone. When applying liner, start from the inner corner of the eyes and stop right at the outer corner. Do not extend the line upwards or past the outer corner. Deep Set Eyes The eye is deep into the socket, with a small mobile lid. Apply light colours on the mobile lid with a deeper colour on and just above the socket, and blend up and out. Keep eyeliner thin, especially on the upper lid. Hooded Eyes You can barely see the lid. A fold of skin hangs over the socket line. This happens with age. Use matte colours in medium to dark and keep eye makeup simple. Avoid glitter and shimmer. Almond Eyes The ideal shape to work with. Considered to have “perfect” proportions, any eye technique will work. Lucky lady! Droopy/Down Turned Eyes The focus for this eye shape is to shade up and out. Use medium shade on the lid and darker shade on the crease directed upwards and the outer eye. Extend liner up and out creating a cat eye so that outside corner is pulled away from the eye completely. Curl your lashes as it will visually lift the upper eyelid. Avoid mascara on your bottom lashes as this could also drag the eyelid down visually. Your look should now be complete! Remember, a smile is the best makeup that any girl can wear... By Asta Perkins astaperkins.co.uk Protruding/Prominent Eye This eye shape has a bulge from the socket to the lash and can be difficult to work with. The best way to shade this eye is to use nudes and neutral matte colours. Skip eyeliner and use false lashes instead as it will set the eye back. 41
