DIGITAL
Reviews
For those of you ‘early adopters’ that embrace technology and the best of the web, the
Re: Magazine team have been busy researching what the digital and gadget world have
to offer and we have found some gems.
Camera
Olympus PEN E-PL5- from £325
Whether you want point-and-shoot or full manual control,
this Olympus has it all to hand. It’s easy to use but has more
complex features if you dig in deep - there are even features
such as four-channel off-camera flash available for those
clever enough to manipulate the light.
Gadget
iGrill2 - $99.99 from
idevicesinc.com
It’s BBQ season and if you are
anything like me, food is served
raw or like charcoal. With this
gadget your chances of giving
your loved ones food poisoning
is greatly reduced. The iGrill2
allows you to monitor the
temperature of your food using
the free iDevices Connected
App from up to 150 feet away,
far enough away that smoke
isn’t in your eyes). The device
features a vibrant LED display
with proximity wake-up, magnetic
mounting, four probe ports and a
150-hour battery life.

Sleepyti.me
There is a lot of range in this camera, and for the price
point you get a lot of bang for your buck. Good quality build,
decent image quality, great autofocus, and a huge lens
system to expand into too. It’ll last you for a good length
of time and gives the flexibility to progress onto a more
advanced camera without needing to ditch any lenses.
The ‘2’ in the name gives us a hint as to the fact this is
B&W’s second attempt at a high-end soundbar. The first
was impressive, the second even more so.
Available from all good camera stores.
Citymapper - FREE
Picture the scene: you’re out in London (or New York) and you’re
a bit lost, drunk or both. It’s late, maybe raining, and you need to
get home but you’re in an unfamiliar part of the city surrounded by
strange buildings and unsavoury people. What do you do?
Simple, just open Citymapper, enter where you want to go and the
application will give you detailed instructions, complete with public
transport options, on how to get from your current predicament to
the comfort of your own abode.

Bowers & Wilkins Panorama 2 –
£1,649
B&W have a high quality audio heritage and they have
obviously applied all of its clever know-how to this, the
Panorama 2.
It might lack some of the more modern stuff such as Wi-Fi
connectivity, but do we really care?
App
Sound
Panorama 2 adds a new dimension to home
entertainment, bringing truly immersive high-quality sound
to your TV from a single, discreet speaker. You won’t
believe what a big difference a single box can make.
This calculator will tell you exactly what time to go to bed based
on natural sleep cycles. Get your Z’s just tell the site what time
you need to wake up and it will tell you when you need to fall
asleep to get the best sleep possible. Please keep in mind that
you should be falling asleep at these times.
The average adult human takes fourteen minutes to fall asleep,
so plan accordingly! sleepyti.me works by counting backwards
in sleep cycles. Sleep cycles typically last 90 minutes.
Waking up in the middle of a sleep cycle leaves you feeling
tired and groggy, but waking up in between cycles lets you
wake up feeling refreshed and alert! I’ve put the site to the test
(the things I do for Re: Magazine) and I can confirm that it
actually works.
