News Ready. Set. Go! On 6th April an enthusiastic team of MWB staff members took part in the Brighton 10k race. The 10k race is designed as a fast, flat, accurately measured course along the Old Steine and the seafront of Brighton & Hove and took place on the same day as the Brighton Marathon. Another merger for MWB July 1st sees us merge with yet another firm, this time with long-established law firm, Stuckey Carr, that have offices based in Storrington and Pulborough. This merger is the third that the law firm will have completed in the last two years following the acquisition of Allen Ticehurst Solicitors in East Grinstead during 2012 and Forest Row firm PR Vince in October last year. The completion of this deal will mean that Mayo Wynne Baxter will have eight offices in Sussex including those long established bases in Eastbourne, Seaford, Lewes and Brighton. Stuckey Carr & Co was established in Sussex in 1843 and Senior Partner Robin Carr is the third generation of his family to have been at the firm. Along with Partner Peter Jones, Robin will remain on as a Consultant post merger. Mayo Wynne Baxter’s Chief Executive, Chris Randall, said: “We are delighted to announce the upcoming merger with Stuckey Carr & Co. This is a great move for both firms and means that clients in Storrington and Pulborough will have access to a much broader range of legal services. The additional two offices extend our reach into West Sussex and is a further step towards Mayo Wynne Baxter being the dominant law firm in the county.” The news of this merger follows a recent announcement that the firm has invested heavily in new practice management The atmosphere was electric at 7.30am on the misty Sunday morning of the race. Preston Park was the starting point for both the Marathon and the 10k and consequently was full of keen runners of all levels. Assembling with the rest of the MWB team at the start line and pinning our race numbers to our personalised vest tops created a great sense of software to further improve it’s already industry leading client service delivery. This state-of-the-art software will go live later in the year and includes functionality that can allow clients to have direct 24hour access to their matter via a secure web portal. solidarity and positivity amongst us. At 8.30am laces were tightened and the race began! Some highlights of the day included Chris Randall achieving under his 50 minute target and completing the race in 48.01 minutes. Jo Ironside and I steadily reached the finish line in 65 minutes (personal bests for both) and enjoyed pacing ourselves with a mischievous 80 year old man running in Irish fancy dress. Nick Walsh had the pleasure of greeting Olympic Athlete, Paula Radcliffe at the finish line and Amy Pulling successfully completed the Marathon crossing the finish line with her father. Nikki Rudland, Jayne Godfrey, Zoe Summers, Catalina Panaitescu-Beacroft and Gail Waller joined the Eastbourne Midnight Walk in aid of Chestnut Tree House. Nikki said: “It was a lovely night for a walk, the sea looked amazing in the moonlight and the friendly marshals encouraged us by telling us to keep going!” Jayne added: “It was great to see so many women of all abilities and ages together to do their bit for this fantastic cause. By the second mile my ankles and feet were aching but because of the team spirit given out by the MWB girls and the cheery marshals, we kept each other motivated.” Doughnut win for our staff S W H O M M G O E R E D L R H O S S U S P W S T U S A L E L I A Q U E T E I E C R I L I L U L E L D A I S K E L D L I L D E E A M B E T I Y N R D H S S G K E U T U C F S A O I U S V C R R O W S G N L E A G A T O S I P E D A I Staff at our Forest Row office have got used to our ‘cake culture’ since they joined us last year. So much so when, Michelle Payne heard there was the potential to win some freebies, there was no stopping her. Partner, Fiona Dodd said: “While Michelle was off, she entered a competition on Heart Radio to get Krispy Kreme doughnuts delivered to our workplace.  She had to say why her workplace deserved it, and did such a good job that she won a box.  She told them how many staff we have here so no sudden visitors were allowed!” Support and cheers from the public, family and friends on the day was tremendously encouraging and motivating. It was fantastic to run the race with colleagues and fly the flag for the firm. We hope that more people will join us and take part in the Brooks 10K in November this year… Team MWB, together stronger and fitter! M P Answers to cro
