Wear a white top to the trial so you can see how your makeup looks against a pale colour. Always take some pictures with and without a flash to see how you look in a natural light and to see what needs to be adjusted. • Bring examples to your trial of makeup that you really like. Remember that every person is unique and something that you like might not suit you. • Get a good night’s sleep. It is important that you rest and look good in the morning. No one wants those puffy eyes on the wedding day. • Eat your breakfast! It will give you some energy and trust me you will still fit into your dress!!! • Remember there is a big difference between the clothes that you wear everyday and a wedding dress. Your makeup should be different too. It should have enough colour to compensate the whiteness of the dress otherwise you might look washed out in the photographs. • Use professional makeup. Here are some things that you should and shouldn’t do both before and on your wedding day. should last you throughout the day and night. Choose long lasting formulations, waterproof eyeliners, long lasting cream eyeshadows and of course waterproof mascara is a must for all those emotional moments! • Go for individual eyelashes. They look beautiful and natural and they will definitely give you that brilliant and subtle look. They will also look great in the photographs. • Take care of your skin way in advance of the wedding. Beautiful skin is a must on the wedding day so remember to take good care of it. Makeup artists can only do so much, the rest is your responsibility. I recommended Charlotte’s Magic Cream, it is absolutely amazing. You might find something else for the big day that you like as her makeup range is great. Don’t: • Try to look like someone else on your big day. You should look a better, beautiful and more polished version of yourself. • Choose a trendy makeup style. Keep it classic as you will have those photographs forever. Trends come and go, so looking at your pictures in 10 years time you might be very disappointed. • Apply makeup to your face only. Don’t forget to cover your ears and behind them, your neck and your shoulders if needed. Everything should look uniform to create that natural look. • Experiment with any new products. You might get an allergic reaction. If you decide to have a facial, do it 1 month before the wedding. • Rush. Allow up to an hour for makeup application on the wedding day. • Use lots of fake tan, spray tan or sun bed. The bridal look should be soft, gentle and natural, make sure you don’t over do it. Don’t go sunbathing just before the wedding too, especially if you choose to get married abroad. The red lobster look, complete with stripes on your Bridal makeup tips: • Use a primer as a base to ensure that your foundation lasts all day. Your skin will remain shine free and any pores or fine lines will be erased. It will prepare the skin for makeup and will create a protective base that foundation can “grab onto”. • Choose a matt foundation to match your skin tone. The key is to check the colour in natural daylight. Always check a foundation along the jawline to guarantee you don’t leave a tidemark and extend it towards the neck. If the colour is right for you it should blend in seamlessly. Invest in a good foundation brush or a beauty blender, your skin will look flawless and that is your aim! Try to avoid high SPF on the day as it reflects the light. • Don’t forget concealer. It is still a bridal beauty-must to get rid of any unwanted shadows that might persist after foundation application. Use a small concealer brush to cover any redness around your nose, chin or get rid of dark circles under eyes. • Use powder to set your foundation and concealer so it doesn’t “travel” on your face. It will keep everything in place and will prevent your face from looking shiny. Use a large powder brush and dust lightly onto your face and under eyes. • Don’t forget that blusher. To avoid looking washed out on the photographs apply a subtle blusher. You will look fresh and beautiful and your face will “blossom” instantly. • Eyeshadow primer is the key for long lasting makeup, so don’t skip this step. It will even out the lid and prepare the base for eye shadow application. • Use light eyeshadow as the base all over the lid. This is the best way to open up the eyes and make them stand out in photographs. Remember blending is the key to good makeup so make sure you don’t leave any harsh lines. • Apply a darker eye shadow colour as close to your top lash line as possible. It will make your lashes look fuller and your eyes will stand out. You can also bring it to the lower lash line if you wish three quarters of the way. shoulders won’t be one you will treasure for long. • Go for light-reflecting products, especially under the eyes. Artificial lights and flash will pick it up so keep it where it’s needed on the browbone and cheek bone. Avoid shimmery powders, you don’t want to look like a glitter ball ether. • Forget to have a compact powder, lipstick, blusher and concealer with you for touch ups, or make sure one of your bridesmaids has it for you. Don’t forget your groom. It is important that he looks his best in the photographs, so make sure your makeup artist powders his skin so he doesn’t look shiny on camera. Finally, if you are getting married abroad, book a makeup lesson before you go away so you are confident with what to do on the day. Choose moisturising satin-y finish lipstick as this formula will wear off most naturally and evenly. Blot your lips after the first lipstick application and then re-apply. Use a lip brush, this way you will be able to apply thin layers and distribute it evenly on the lips. Apply a shimmery lip gloss right in the centre of your lips. It will reflect the light nicely and your lips will look bigger. Photo credit: Albert Pocej 47
