WHY I LOVE
Horsham
Since moving to Horsham in
2006 I have been constantly
impressed by this delightful
historic market town.
Situated in the centre of the Weald,
Horsham has much charm and retains a
homely feel despite being only 12 miles
from Gatwick Airport.
The Carfax is very much at the heart
of Horsham and the town has grown
up around it. It is my favourite part
of the town and local produce, arts
and crafts and street food can all be
found at the markets held here. All the
best restaurants are only a short walk
away and you can even find a couple
of cocktail bars nearby. I love the
unmistakably warm smell of coffee that
permeates the air in the morning and at
Christmas the Carfax truly comes alive
and captures a magical feeling for all
generations. Every Saturday morning the
Carfax is buzzing with families, shoppers
and traders.
To the south of the Carfax is the
Causeway often referred to as the most
attractive street in Horsham. This quiet
street contains many of Horsham’s finest
historic buildings and is certainly worth
a visit whatever the season. Horsham
Museum and Art Gallery can be found
on the Causeway and has varying
exhibitions for all the family throughout
the year.
The town hosts many fun events such as
the impressive Piazza Italia District Tour
Ferrari rally often held on a Good Friday
when around 100 Ferraris can be seen
and heard driving noisily into the Carfax.
The ‘Rising Fountain’ water sculpture
erected to commemorate the poet Percy
Bysshe Shelley is a landmark in the town
centre that greets shoppers and serves
as a welcome resting point for children
bored of their parent’s shopping.
The fountain is a controversial sculpture
designed by Angela Connor to release
a torrent of six and a half tons of water
periodically. It is 45ft across its base and
