Leon Eldred The modern working population is increasingly dealing with more barriers to maintain an acceptable level of health. It is no surprise that research demonstrates a strong link between office environments and sedentary lifestyles. To encourage and educate our staff in overcoming some of these barriers, the initial objectives of our health and wellbeing strategy was to introduce a complimentary Healthcare Cash Plan benefit to as a health and wellbeing benefit for our staff. This forms part 30 of our ongoing health and wellbeing strategy which we wanted to celebrate by organising a week of taster classes, educational talks and most importantly, massages. The aim was to encourage staff to think about their health, recognising the benefits of certain regular practices to their daily wellbeing and to the reduction of stress. The biggest challenge for the HR team was the geographical spread of our offices – our aim was to offer as much as we could across the firm even if the smaller offices did not have the space to accommodate providers. Although in hindsight, some fun could have been captured of staff attempting on-the-desk yoga poses. It was important that we were able to give staff what they wanted most, a way for them to shape their own health and wellbeing programme. No surprise there then that massages came out tops with mindfulness as a close contender! In the weeks before, we worked hard to identify the most apt, and where possible, local providers for the various offices. The outcome resulted in 30 sessions taking place, with approximately 195 attendees and 73 massages given.  The HR team received overwhelmingly motivational and encouraging feedback, which has helped us establish what the most popular events were and what else you would like to see for future events we may be able to consider.
