End of an era
As this article is being written it appears
that British Home Stores has been placed
into administration or at least will be.
Type the phrase “High Street
Administration” into your favourite search
engine and the likelihood is that you will
see on the first page an article listing the
stores no longer on the High Street and
possibly reports of one or two about to
enter an insolvency process.
The High Street has lost, and continues
to lose, stores with close to or over 100
years presence on our High Street. Each
will have had there own problems but
common to all will be the loss of many
jobs over the country as a whole and a
nostalgic memory or two.
Some of the well known names who
have entered Administration have
returned, HMV for instance entered
administration in 2013, however having
been purchased by a new buyer it
remains on the High Street once again
the biggest retailer of physical music in
Britain in 2015.
JJB Sports was ‘rescued’ after being
placed into Administration in 2012.
