Tea with the Mayor
It ’ s not often that you get invited to take tea with the Mayor in his Parlour , so when ours arrived we jumped at the chance .
The outgoing Mayor of Brighton & Hove is Councillor Bill Randall whose one year term as the first citizen of the city came to an end in May .
The Mayor undertakes an important ceremonial role both in and outside the city . However , this role is different from some mayors the Mayor of Brighton & Hove is not directly elected by the people and therefore holds no direct power .
The Mayor is politically neutral in carrying out all of his mayoral duties and he attends in excess of 700 public engagements throughout the year , including hosting tea with the city ’ s favourite ‘ legal eagles ’.
