I auditioned for Starlight Express at the time. My audition was with Arlene Phillips….she’d known of me as a dancer through circles and TV. I put my roller skates on, auditioned, fell flat on my backside. 12 in my nature so I was always fighting with that. So, I was a good kid. JE: After that what did you think you were going to do? JE: Tell me about playing football? KD: I mean, it’s different now, obviously, there’s lots of education within the football side of things with the schooling and academies. But, when I was growing up, football, it was, “I’m going to be a footballer and that’s it.” There was nobody saying, “Yeah, but you really should think long term.” I was going to be a footballer and that was it. So when that wasn’t going to be possible, I had no idea, I was… I was lost. I was lost thinking, “right, okay…” My education wasn’t great and I hadn’t got any more plans to do anything else so I had to start from scratch. KD: I love my football. I played for Liverpool School Boys. I am an avid Liverpool fan. I really wanted to go all the way with football but injuries stopped me. I was absolutely gutted about that. I represented the county as well. But once I had the injury I knew that I was never going to make it so I stopped. I didn’t play and I didn’t even watch football for about two years, it offended me that much. Eventually I said to myself, “oh, come on, you’ve got to get it together.” So, it took me two years to even watch it again and I was absolutely gutted. So, that kind of threw me off track a bit because I really never thought, “W hat am I going to do?” I had no idea whatsoever what I was going to do other than football. JE: What age was that?
