Multi award winning hit West End musical
SUNNY AFTERNOON
Tuesday 13 – Saturday 31 Dec 2016
Theatre Royal Brighton will this
Christmas be continuing its highly
successful tradition of showing a smash
hit West End musical over the festive
period. This year’s Christmas show
will be SUNNY AFTERNOON, which
won four awards at the 2015 Olivier
Awards, including Best New Musical and
Outstanding Achievement in Music for
Ray Davies.
The show tells the story of the early life of
Ray Davies and the rise to stardom of The
Kinks. The iconic band exploded onto
the 60s music scene with a raw, energetic
new sound that rocked a nation. But how
did that happen, where exactly did they
come from and what happened next to
make them one of the most influential
British bands of all time?
SUNNY AFTERNOON is performed by a
group of hugely talented actor musicians
supported on stage by a live band. You’ll
hear some of The Kinks’ best loved
songs, including You Really Got Me,
Waterloo Sunset and Lola and, of course,
Sunny Afternoon.
Much more than just a tribute show,
there is also a strong storyline featuring
dishonest music promoters, a volatile
sibling relationship that rivals that of Liam
and Noel Gallagher, tension, romance and
friendships. The show faithfully captures
the mood of the 60s, with a particularly
memorable and moving scene recalling
England’s 1966 World Cup win.
This quirky, very British show has got
pathos, humour, superb production values
and great tunes. Whether you are a Kinks
fan or not, it is the absolute perfect show
for Brighton at Christmas.

SNOWDOGS BY THE SEA
To celebrate SUNNY AFTERNOON’s arrival in Brighton this Christmas, Theatre
Royal Brighton is delighted to be one of 40 local businesses taking part in
the Snowdogs by the Sea initiative. The Theatre has commissioned a Kinks
themed snowdog christened Lola, which will be positioned just outside the
Theatre. Please do take a look if you are in New Road and tell your family and
friends to look out for Lola if they are following the trail.
