The impetus for this full-colour book
comes from Eastbourne resident,
Edward Dickinson, the text has been
provided by Richard Crook and the
graphic design by Nicholas Howell.
The architectural details showcased
in the book demonstrate the loving
maintenance given to the properties by
the local companies and individuals who
have set high standards in maintaining
them.
Mr Dickinson said: “This book owes its
origins to the successful ‘Salisbury in
Detail’ published in 2009 by the Salisbury
Civic Society; a project in which my
architect daughter played a part. The
Eastbourne project was initiated by
Richard Crook, the author, Nicholas
Howell, the graphic designer and me –
on the suggestion of my daughter. To
this group we added Susan Body of
Compton Estate and co-opted others
from time to time on a needs basis. The
primary requirement was photography.”
Some 900 pictures were taken
and of these close to 350 from 12
photographers made it into the book.
A few are given a full page, and just a
very few a stunning double page spread;
but, as the book deals with architectural
details covering 20 subjects, some
spreads include as many as nine photos.
Mr Dickinson continued: “The layout
is extraordinarily impressive and the
text, by Richard, is a tour de force
