Jiving You may remember from previous issues of Re: Magazine that I had committed to a jive competition over the summer despite having two left feet. Along with five other local ‘celebs’ and our professional dance partners we entertained 500 people at the Hilton Brighton Metropole Midsummer Ball. The organisers hoped that they would reach a target of £40,000 which we comfortably exceeded by raising an amazing £75,000. The funds were raised for the Hilton in the Community Foundation and Rockinghorse, the official fundraising arm of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital in Brighton. The event included a champagne drinks reception, three-course meal and indoor dodgems but one of the highlights of the evening was the ’celebrity’ jive contest with Zoe Ball and Sid Sloane (interviewed on page 86) as celebrity judges. Despite losing out to the boss of brightonandhovejobs.com, Gary Peters, who won the Strictly Come Dancing style competition, I could console myself with the fact that Zoe Ball told me that she loved me (although I think she may have been referring to my dancing efforts rather than anything deeper). I want to give a big thank you to my dance partner Jane who, in just five hours of tuition, took me from uncoordinated buffoon to dancing in front of some of the county’s glitterati. Thanks Jane.
