Ruba-dub-dub They may have walked away with the Booby Prize but team ‘Mayo Juice’ was recognised for spirit and enthusiasm during the first ‘Great Sussex Bath Race’. Made up of MWB partners Dean Orgill and Martin Williams with Laurence Elphick and Rachel Regan from Juice 107.2FM, the team competed with 13 others in the first annual race at a private lake near Chichester at the end of July. Teams of four were provided with bath tubs and equipment to build a raft on the day, they then had to paddle 250 yards racing against other teams in heats, with the winners going forward to a grand final race in the afternoon. The teams were competing for a chance to win The Great Sussex Bath Race 2013 trophies – adorned with bath taps. The day was compered by children’s entertainer Tomfoolery, with Juice 107.2’s Ambrose Harcourt presenting prizes. Companies participating included The Hungry Guest, BP, John Lewis at Home, The Martin Sewell Building Company, Rendezvous Casino, British Airways Engineering, SJP Partnership, Mayo Wynne Baxter with Juice 107.2, Caremark, NatWest, Focus Group, Cocoa Loco, Virgin Atlantic and Bentley Motors. The John Lewis at Home team from Chichester made a great comeback after having to rebuild their raft after it sunk on its maiden voyage. They won the Wooden Spoon trophy for their efforts. Members of the ‘Mayo Juice’ team were recognised for their spirit and enthusiasm taking home the Booby Prize while The Grand Final winners were The Hungry Guest, and Caremark were the Demolition Derby winners. “It was a brilliant day and we have already raised around £13,000 for our chosen charities, Chestnut Tree House and LifeCentre, with more pledges and donations to be counted,” said Event Director Neil Laughton, who you may remember was interviewed in the last issue of Re: Magazine.. “I’d like to thank everyone who threw themselves into this whacky contest with such enthusiasm and already businesses are approaching us to enter teams next year!” The project was supported by local businesses including Be Creative, Natural PR, Business Leadership Academy, Colourwise, Amplee, The Gourmet Chef, Tomfoolery and Westbourne House School, with CP Hart Bathrooms providing bath tubs. greatsussexbathrace.co.uk 18
