Swing when you’re Wynne-ing On Wednesday 5th June at The Dyke Golf Club up on the Downs near Brighton, the sun came out to greet us for what was to be a very enjoyable day. Around 100 guests arrived early for breakfast and were issued with goodie bags containing all the golf essentials – golf balls, pitch repairers, and team t-shirts. Teams of four were put together and a shotgun start sent all the teams on their way. The course lived up to its excellent reputation. The contrast between the long hard-hitting holes on the western side of the ridge and the holes of a more adventurous type on the eastern side gave the players a challenging journey. All players were kept energised throughout the day with a helpful delivery of water and chocolate bars. Plus the likely chance of being caught on camera kept everyone’s eye on the game. Every year we hold a corporate golf day, inviting some of our referrers and clients from across Sussex to join us for a round of golf followed by lunch and prize giving. The MWB Golf Day usually promises to be an informal, relaxed affair where relationships can be built and strengthened. This year was no exception. A golf lesson was held by the club pro for any guests who felt their golf skills were too rusty to play or those that had never swung a club before. The pro took the group of six out to practice their swinging skills, or in my case an exercise of hacking the grass out of the ground. After a round of golf on the beautifully scenic golf course, everyone worked up a hearty appetite ready to enjoy the delicious buffet. The relaxed, informal atmosphere turned briefly competitive when scores where being added up and post team talks turned quite serious. Another successful day enjoyed by all guests – now the challenge is how we can make it bigger and better next year! By Amy Pulling 124
