and Stock SSM # 6's.

I got to talking to Kirk, and found him to be a very down to earth and humble guy, whom was more concerned with reliability and fun then the top speed number (which is currently 156 mph if you're curious). I was a little curious how he came to own this pretty remarkable boat, and we tracked his history of boats backwards from this 40 SS, to the boat before this one which was his first Skater that was a 32 with Stock 575's and # 6's. Before switching to a true tunnel he owned a DCB F-26 with twin 300's, Preceded by a DCB Mach 26 with twin 280's. His first boat was actually a "Barefoot Warrior" made by Ski Centurion with an 200 Black Max, and a Bob's Machine jackplate that would run around 60 mph.

I asked Kirk what his future plans were with his 40SS, and what upgrades he was considering, Kirk didn't skip a beat when he said "Well we got the reliable and fun part down (laughs), now we are just looking for a little more speed out of it. I'm going to have Carson upgrade the blowers to PSI's, we are going to switch to Fuel Injection, and put on bigger Inner Coolers. Vern's going to go through the Drives for me and Dry sump them, and have the Lowers Blue Printed." Even after that list of upgrades I still got the sense that reliability was of the most importance, and they are just trying to increase the fun a little more.

I asked Kirk what his dream was in all of this, and what did he want out of it. His response was actually one of the best I've heard to that question. It didn't involve trophies and breaking records, or racing. His eyes lit up and he said "You ever see one of those Corona commercials, where they are sitting on a white sand beach?" I replied with yes and he said "I just want to be sitting in one of those chairs on that beach with a corona, and have my boat floating out in the water ahead of me."
