of learning ‘life-wide’ skills.
At the authors’
university a scheme called OpportUNIty employs
students in any suitable jobs. One of the
aspirations of this project is to do more to facilitate
students recognising, recording and articulating
the skills and experiences they have gained.
These are some of the opportunities available to
play a role in raising students’ awareness of their
skills and strengths. In this way we are also
embedding the behaviours of life-long learning
and life-long employability. If we respect,
encourage and recognise the uniqueness of the
individual, we are far more likely to foster the
feeling of ‘belonging’ that Thomas (2012)
identifies as c ɥѥ
