The schedule has come together quite nicely to address the important issues that you, the members of NMASBO, requested at the upcoming conference. We have an important general session scheduled to talk about the 2018 budget preparation in light of the revenue challenges the state and schools are facing next fiscal year. We also have a related session scheduled to provide an update on the status of legislation at the current legislative session. We have an outstanding first general session motivational speaker lined up who will also lead a breakout session. Other sessions include: two sessions tailored for the new Business Managers on understanding your financial statements; RBC will have a session on bond ratings in light of the recent downgrade of the state’s bond rating and the impact to school districts bonds; a session on the difference between contractors and employees and the IRS’ ruling on this distinction (note the IRS will now join this session). Other sessions are: procurement requirements from the uniform guidance, information on GASB77, controlling costs at your schools, having mentors for new business officials, information on E-rate funding, Excel training, an AG-led presentation on public records requests/open meetings, a session updating the status on CPO requirements for each school district/charter, a session led by PSFA showing the importance of tracking data in School Dude software. There will be a session led by PED on procurement requirements for the school nutrition program. The IRS will have a session on other hot issues that schools need to be aware of and there is one session scheduled on energy conservation in schools. Of course, we will have our ever popular sessions from APTA and Visions, with Visions doing a pre-conference session for new Visions users. As you can see, we have a very full schedule this year, as we have added more early sessions. We have a full schedule all three days the conference and we look forward to seeing you in Albuquerque! Thanks for all of the member input on ideas for sessions.
