Their innovative approach to working with local young people and their families has provided an excellent opportunity for all our TreMENDous graduates and their family members. Weekly, families can access the gym with younger sibling enjoying an activity session delivered by HND Health and Fitness Students. This opportunity is encouraging families to incorporate healthy habits into their daily lives so they can stay healthy for life of the success of the pilots, the Scottish Government announced funding in September 2015 to roll the initiative out to dentists, doctors, vets, firefighters and hairdressers across Scotland. ” Lesley Fowler, Volunteer and Partner Development Officer (Healthy Powerful Communities) East Ayrshire Council One of the College’s major strengths is working with the disabled community. Students helped to deliver Ayrshire Sportsability’s annual festival of sport, a focal point for disability sport in the region and a highlight for students who coached 600 young people in eight different activities across four days. Students supported lead coaches to deliver each sport, helped groups of children to take part in each of the sporting activities, and encouraged participation. Supporting safer communities In 2015, the College took part in a pioneering pilot scheme to help hair and beauty professionals spot signs of domestic abuse in their clients. The programme teaches professionals what kind of things to look out for if they suspect someone may be a victim of abuse. Training provided by Medics Against Violence showed students how to raise the issue with clients and how to give them guidance about getting further support.
