In March 2015 on International Women’s Day, ACSA launched the #ThisAyrshireGirlCan campaign to tackle gender imbalance in subject areas such as engineering, construction and sport. The Student Association organised a ‘Talk it Out’ session to mark Islamic Awareness week in June 2015, a discussion around the Islamic faith which enabled students and staff to ask questions about the faith’s culture and beliefs in an informal environment. Outstanding performance of our Student Presidents Tackling inequalities The Student Association worked closely with the College’s Equality and Inclusion, Marketing and curriculum teams throughout 2014-15 to raise awareness of inequalities and promote ways to address these. In February 2015, in partnership with the College’s Equality and Inclusion Team, ACSA took part in LGBT History Month, creating an online A-Z of LGBT+ terms and facilitated a series of LGBT+ Conversation Cafes which brought organisations together to discuss the experiences of LGBT+ people in Ayrshire. ACSA, in partnership with the Equality and Inclusion Team, was shortlisted for Best Equality initiative for its work during LGBT History Month at the Equality Network LGBT+ Awards. 54 AYRSHIRE COLLEGE / QUALITY REPORT 2014/15 Our Student Presidents were recognised for excellence on many occasions during the year. Angela Alexander was nominated onto the National Union of Student Executive Committee. This, along with her Scottish Students Sports Executive Committee position, ensured that Ayrshire College students were represented in a national arena. In November 2014, Angela won the SQA Star Award for College Candidate of the Year, and the College Development Network’s Student Contribution Award. Fellow Student President, Emma Hall, won the NUS Scotland LGBT Inspirational Student of the Year Award for her work supporting LGBT students in the College. Her efforts were further recognised by being elected as a Further Education representative on the NUS UK LGBT Committee.
