In March 2015 on International Women’s Day, ACSA
launched the #ThisAyrshireGirlCan campaign to tackle
gender imbalance in subject areas such as engineering,
construction and sport.
The Student Association organised a ‘Talk it Out’
session to mark Islamic Awareness week in June 2015,
a discussion around the Islamic faith which enabled
students and staff to ask questions about the faith’s
culture and beliefs in an informal environment.

Tackling inequalities
The Student Association worked closely with the
College’s Equality and Inclusion, Marketing and
curriculum teams throughout 2014-15 to raise awareness
of inequalities and promote ways to address these.
In February 2015, in partnership with the College’s
Equality and Inclusion Team, ACSA took part in LGBT
History Month, creating an online A-Z of LGBT+ terms
and facilitated a series of LGBT+ Conversation Cafes
which brought organisations together to discuss the
experiences of LGBT+ people in Ayrshire. ACSA, in
partnership with the Equality and Inclusion Team, was
shortlisted for Best Equality initiative for its work during
LGBT History Month at the Equality Network LGBT+
Awards.
