WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SCHOOLS A schools open day at the College in February 2014 was attended by over 350 young people who sampled a range of vocational courses. We delivered a Barista qualification to young people across Ayrshire as part of transition planning for S4 pupils not undertaking external assessment and not on study leave. In addition to meetings with the directors of education in the three local authorities, regular meetings of deputy heads took place, and we held four partnership meetings in each local authority to evaluate the year’s activity and plan for 2015-16. In November 2014, we delivered a series of very successful staff development sessions for guidance teachers at our main campuses in each local authority. Over 90 teachers developed their understanding of our school-college provision to help support school pupil choice. Supporting the transition from school to college In 2014-15, at the request of local authority partners, the College invited all local schools, social work and support agencies to form planning partnerships to improve the transition from school to college. 48 AYRSHIRE COLLEGE / QUALITY REPORT 2014/15 The College offered Transition to College classes linking with special schools and supported learning centres in secondary schools to improve the transition for senior school pupils with learning difficulties. Held one day per week, these provided an opportunity to explore topics at college, develop social skills and promote independence. In 2014-15, 150 places were offered to pupils across Ayrshire.
