WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SCHOOLS
A schools open day at the College in February 2014
was attended by over 350 young people who sampled
a range of vocational courses. We delivered a Barista
qualification to young people across Ayrshire as part of
transition planning for S4 pupils not undertaking external
assessment and not on study leave.
In addition to meetings with the directors of education
in the three local authorities, regular meetings of deputy
heads took place, and we held four partnership meetings
in each local authority to evaluate the year’s activity and
plan for 2015-16.
In November 2014, we delivered a series of very
successful staff development sessions for guidance
teachers at our main campuses in each local authority.
Over 90 teachers developed their understanding of our
school-college provision to help support school pupil
choice.
Supporting the transition from school
to college
In 2014-15, at the request of local authority partners, the
College invited all local schools, social work and support
agencies to form planning partnerships to improve the
transition from school to college.

AYRSHIRE COLLEGE / QUALITY REPORT 2014/15
The College offered Transition to College classes linking
with special schools and supported learning centres in
secondary schools to improve the transition for senior
school pupils with learning difficulties. Held one day per
week, these provided an opportunity to explore topics at
college, develop social skills and promote independence.
In 2014-15, 150 places were offered to pupils across
Ayrshire. This approach aided progression and promoted
access.
