RIGHT LEARNING IN THE RIGHT PLACE Ayrshire College has five learning and skills directorates: Access and Inclusion; Creative; Care, Education, Sport and Fitness; Hospitality, Tourism, Business and IT; and STEM. Each of the directorates is responsible for two curriculum areas. In 2014-15, these curriculum areas supported a total of 14,317 students. In-depth review of our curriculum In May, as part of a pilot to trial a new approach to quality enhancement and assurance in the college sector, we held an evaluation week where each curriculum area spent a day reviewing their performance with staff, students, employers and other stakeholders. This report captures some of the evidence highlighted during the evaluation week, which illustrates how all curriculum and service areas in 2014-15 supported student progress and outcomes, high quality learning and teaching, and support for learning. Students, employers and community planning partners validated what curriculum staff described in relation to the year’s performance. Key conclusions from the week were that: Many students benefited from participating in relevant work experience placements at both FE and HE level attaining valuable employability skills. Most FE students attained core skills units in Communication, ICT, Numeracy, Problem-Solving and Working with Others. Many students participated in fundraising and volunteering activities which widened their experience and skills. 32 AYRSHIRE COLLEGE / QUALITY REPORT 2014/15 Click to view ‘Bringing employers and education together’ The College evaluation process and student feedback, through surveys and focus groups, indicate that most students value their experiences at the College with almost all stating that they are satisfied with their experience.
