Traveling across the country in an RV is a wonderful adventure ... especially when you ’ re organized ! Here are some space and timesaving tips you can use to organize the limited space available in an RV so you can enjoy every minute of that cross country journey or short get-away trek !
INSIDE STORAGE TIPS …
RV closets and drawers may not be the standard sizes you ’ re accustomed to at your home so trying to find storage solutions can be a challenge . Not only are you trying to find a home for everything , you have to also worry about what will happen if you hit a big bump going down the road .
• Make every inch of storage space as efficient as possible . Line drawers and shelves with non-slip liners . This prevents items from sliding when you are motoring down the highway . Using stacking bins or shelves to divide cabinet and cubby spaces will prevent cargo shifting .
• Divide existing closet space for maximum efficiency . A hanging bag or rod doubler are helpful for hanging or folded clothes .
• When possible , repositionable adhesive hooks that won ’ t damage your walls are great to hold towels and robes in the bathroom , utensils in the kitchen , clothing in the bedroom and more .
• Utilize empty space under the bed . Most RV beds lift up , providing great storage space inside and it is easy to access . This is great for extra bedding , blankets and towels . The tub can double as great storage space too , especially if you use showers in camp grounds and truck stops instead .
• For additional kitchen storage space , fill plastic totes or cut down cardboard boxes and use them as dividers in your under-the-bed storage space . This idea keeps canned goods and other food items from rolling around while you ’ re driving . A Lazy Susan with a lip and rubber to keep things from sliding around is helpful in large cabinets , or in your refrigerator .
• Buy a chest freezer . Today ’ s RV ’ s have great cold storage space . However , older RV ’ s , are limited with this type space . A small chest freezer greatly improves your capability to stock a variety of food . This could also be an option to consider in your outside storage compartment .
• Remove the bunkhouse beds and create a closet . Those with this type of RV can easily remove the bunk beds allowing for closet storage space . With the addition of closet organizers , this creates a huge walk-in closet for extra storage . This is also a great place for your upright vacuum cleaner , or broom and dustpan . Another option is to create a laundry room or office space for your RV .
• Organize travel guides , itineraries and reservations by destination and put in a place that is easily accessible . This “ portable ” solution lets you take everything you need upon arrival at your destination .
