Camping and riding roller coasters are two things that I love to do , and fortunately I am not the only one . Many amusement parks have near-by campgrounds , and some even have them right on site . My wife and I have travelled to many of these amusement parks , with our little camper in tow , and have learned just how to take advantage of the opportunity to camp , in some cases , right next to the roller coasters we love . Here are some tips and suggestions to make your next roller coaster adventure one to remember .
• Great discounts can be had – Often the cheapest tickets can be found in the camp store if you are staying on site .
• Get in early – Some amusement parks offer early admission to those staying on site .
• Take advantage of free shuttles – Sometimes the campground and amusement park are not steps from each other . This is not such a bad thing as the campgrounds run free , regular shuttles , so you not only save the parking fee , but it also gives you a chance to get off your feet and relax in the air conditioning .
• Meet the neighbors – Many amusement parks have work camper programs , offering discount or free stays to those working at the amusement park . Parks like to have retirees working as they tend to be responsible and take leadership roles . So make sure to greet the folks camped next to you , they may be able to give you the inside scoop on what is going on in the park .
• Take an afternoon nap – Being just steps away from your campsite allows you to take your time and rest up in the afternoon when the amusement park crowds are at their peak . By evening you will be ready to enjoy all the lights , sounds and smells that make an amusement park visit special .
• Prepare food at your campsite – This will save you a lot of time and money . Have quick , easy meals ready to go ( we like crockpot dinners ) so you can fill up . Just leave a little room for the treats you can ’ t get at home , like cotton candy or funnel cake .
• Check the activities calendar – Games , crafts , movies , pancake breakfasts : if the amusement park doesn ’ t fill your day , the campground will . There is nothing better than a picture with you and the park mascot chilling out at your campsite .
