Chris BELL
Digital Account Manager
at Goodby, Silverstein
& Partners
Detroit, Michigan
2008 graduate Chris Bell currently
works as a digital account manager
at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners,
an advertising agency in Detroit. There, Bell works on the agency’s Chevrolet
account to maintain client relationships as well as coordinate and execute content
generation for Chevy.com. Bell says the Professional Writing program taught him
how to create clear and succinct writing, an essential skill for a job in which he
needs to communicate efficiently and clearly.
Bell has a deeper connection with Professional
Writing than most; not only did he ?nd his
current job through the help of the PW
network, but he also met his wife in the
program. One of Bell’s favorite memories
is Dr. Laura Julier’s grammar and style
course because it was both the ?rst class
he had with his now-wife and when he
really began to feel a sense of community
within the major.
On the importance
of networking
“One person that you
vaguely know may give
you a shot.”
After completing the PW undergrad program,
Bell decided to complete MSU’s MA in digital
rhetoric. From there, he found his current position
through an e-mail presenting a job opportunity that was sent to the program by
another graduate. He encourages Professional Writing students to not be afraid to
network because, as he found out, “one person that you vaguely know may give
you a shot.”
