The contest is being organised by Slough-based software specialist Construction Industry Solutions (COINS), which also hopes to discover young sustainability champions. There will be six finalists in each of the two categories in the COINS Construction Industry Grand Challenge. They will present and explain their innovations to leaders in the fields of construction technology, engineering and academia. It is hoped the ideas will eventually impact on the lives of millions of people worldwide. The first challenge, entitled New and Emerging Technologies, aims to find a hi-tech solution to significantly reduce energy consumption at any or all stages in the lifecycle of built assets. The person who comes up with the best idea will win a place on Singularity University’s week-long Executive Programme in Silicon Valley, California. The second challenge – Leadership 35 – is for forward-thinkers under the age of 35 to come up with a new approach to sustainability leadership within the construction industry. ‘We encourage free thinkers’ The prize for the winning entry in this category is a place on the Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainable Business or Value Chains course at the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership.
