40 OCTOBER 2016 PRO INSTALLER PRO SUPPORT www.proinstaller.co.uk FIT MORE, EARN MORE UltraRoof380 from Ultraframe is a great looking, fast-fit, thermally efficient, replacement tiled roof that can incorporate full rectangular glass panels. The simple, lightweight, tiled roof is perfect for replacing an old tired conservatory roof in one day. This step-by-step guide demonstrates how UltraRoof380’s three simple components make it extremely light and easy to install, faster than any other solid roof onto existing frames. 1 Step one: UltraRoof380 typically only weighs 38kg per square metre. As a result, the roof can be supported on frames, masonry or Loggia columns. The box beam has an unsupported span up to 4m, enabling you to fit bi-folds or any other glazing combination without a lintel. You can fit the box beam to out-of-square bases, centralising the box beam to balance the depth of the soffit before fixing to the frames, or to masonry, with straps. Ask for Ultraframe’s survey guide for advice on how to deal with masonry, box gutters, cut-outs and other building detailing. 2 Step two: Once the box beam is in place you can begin work on roof framework. First you’ll need to fix the ridge hanger, ridge and hip supports. The ridge should be checked to ensure it is level and then supported by timbers or acrow props during the build. 3 Step three: If your Ultraroof380 features glazing there’s a slightly different build-up option at this point, but the installation guide explains this clearly. For an unglazed roof you’ll be fitting the roof panels next. The roof panels hook into the ridge and rest on the box beam. The roof really begins to take shape now. Every roof design works on the same installation pattern so you’ll always be working from the host wall, inserting the panels in pairs. At this stage the panels only need to be laid into position. Once everything is in place the panels can be securely fixed into position through pre-drilled holes in the box beam and hip framework. 4 Step four: The next stage of the Ultraroof380 installation involves fitting the OSB panels and self-adhesive waterproof membrane. All the OSB panels come with tongue and groove edges so they’ll fit together nice and securely. The OSB panels are screwed to the counter battens that are pre-fitted to the roof deck, this provides ventilation for the roof space enabling it to perform in the most taxing environments. The waterproof membrane is applied at the bottom of each slope, with the next layer overlapping the first. In the unlikely event of water finding its way under the tiles it will not penetrate the roof but will simply drain into the gutter. 5 Step five: UltraTiles are pre-cut and labeled. Layout diagrams are provided to ensure you get them in the right position. There are 12 tiles to each sheet. They interlock with each other so installation requires relatively few screws. This saves you time and money, enabling you to complete the job more quickly. Once your roof is tiled, it’s the simple job of installing the glazing using knock in glazing caps, if your roof design requires it. 6 Step six: Slide in and position the glass panels. Attach and clip-fit the glazing end profile. Screw fix internal and external ridge caps, which form a double weatherproof seal. Finally clip-fit the glazing caps and hip caps around the roof. UltraRoof380 can be fitted quickly and easily. An installation guide and layout dimensions are provided with each roof to ensure you get it right first time.
