OLYMPIC STAR VISITS CONSTRUCTION SITE

Double Olympic silver medallist Louis Smith swapped his pommel horse for a hard hat , when he visited the construction site of the new Birmingham City University Health , Education and Life Sciences building .
The Team GB gymnast , an MBE , was shown the site where the new £ 41 million building is being created by BAM Construction to house new courses in Edgbaston . Designed by Sheppard Robson , the three-storey building on Westbourne Road will be equipped with a suite of laboratories , ultrasound facilities and specialist teacher training rooms . Louis , also a winner of Strictly Come Dancing , visited the Bull Ring shopping centre in Birmingham to take part in a day of sports and health activities organised by the university . The event was to showcase the knowledge and skills which will be gained on new courses , which started last month . Louis , who won silver and bronze medals in London 2012 , and another silver at the Rio Games this year , was also given a tour of the

university ’ s City South Campus and surprised students by visiting a class . At the Bull Ring , he used the university ’ s state-of-the-art equipment to challenge members of the public to beat his reaction times and cycling power , and had ultrasound scans on his arm to watch how his muscles moved . Once construction work is completed the university will be offering services to members of the public such as sports therapy and nutrition advice . The launch marks the first time the university has offered degrees and post-graduate qualifications in subjects such as sports therapy , physiotherapy , nutrition science and biomedical engineering .

OPTIMA SWITCHES ON A BUSY YEAR

Epwin Group customer BBH Ltd has reported one of its busiest years yet , following its recent switch to the Profile 22 Optima system . Director Graham Norman explains : “ We have been with Epwin and Profile 22 for many years now , and looked forward to fabricating the new Optima range . As we all know , technology doesn ’ t stand still and the industry continues to evolve and drive forward with the latest advances . And with that in mind , the Optima range certainly didn ’ t disappoint . “ So far it has been really well received , by both customers that have had Optima installed and also by potential customers that have seen our samples .
The new design of the sculptured frame is a lot more modern and the 70mm depth lends a sleeker , strong and slim line look . As always , exceptional performance in energy efficiency and weather protection means the range is even more appealing to homeowners . “ The transition to fabricating the Optima system has also been a smooth process , and our shop floor operators and fitters are really happy with the system too .” Hailed as the biggest launch in the window industry for a decade , Profile 22 revealed Optima earlier this year . A fully-integrated , 70mm-depth system , it is easy to install and suitable for a wide range of projects . Find out more at www . profile22 . co . uk or call 01952 290910 .
