11 PRO INSTALLER NOVEMBER 2014 PRO NEWS @proinstaller1 WARM THIS WINTER There will be some people this winter that will make the decision between heating and eating, too afraid to turn their boiler on or ignite the flame of their gas fire, fearful of sky-rocketing fuel bills. Energy efficiency isn’t just a marketing buzzword; it has become part of everyday language for consumers and homeowners up and down the country. Whether it’s simply improving the overall performance of their home or making heating affordable, consumers are constantly on the look-out for ways to save. As a result, Window Energy Ratings hold fantastic sales and business benefits for both fabricators and installers, proving the energy rating of a whole window package, and ultimately the savings. When a product is rated with the BFRC, it’s given a consumer-friendly rainbow label ratings guide, which can then be used by consumers to make informed choices. Stand out from the Crowd As a large proportion of a home’s energy is still lost through its windows, this is a big consideration for homeowners. Since 1970 this figure has been reduced by 30 per cent due to more double glazing etc. but windows and doors are still the third biggest source of energy loss. With many consumers now taking the refurbishment route as a means to improve the energy efficiency of their homes, this means that fabricators and installers have a chance to sell the benefits of an A+ rated window and are also able to charge a premium for that. For fabricators and installers who are knowledgeable about energy efficiency measures, it provides a good opportunity to stand out, offer authoritative advice and fill the work diary with replacement as well as new build jobs. ‘higher Window Energy Ratings and better U-values’ Closing the Loop Thermal Value With its latest innovation Spectus Window Systems is arming its customers with one such measure, a product enhancement that improves thermal performance.
