29 PRO INSTALLER MAY 2015 PRO NEWS @proinstaller1 Breathe Freely on Worker Memorial Day The 28th April 2015 marked Worker Memorial Day and BOHS, the Chartered Society for Worker Health Protection launched a new initiative called Breathe Freely in partnership with Constructing Better Health, Land Securities and Mace. The purpose of the initiative is to prevent occupational lung disease in the construction industry. Breathe Freely is a collaborative initiative targeted specifically at managers and site supervisors within the construction industry. The aim is not just to raise awareness of the problem of lung disease within construction industry, but also to effect action by providing practical solutions through sharing best practice and Mike Slater, President of the BOHS encouraging implementation of effective exposure control. At the heart of the Breathe Freely initiative is a new Worker Health Protection Management Standard, a tool to help employers reduce health risks, raise standards and keep them high. Breathe Freely is about providing the information, resources and signposting to the advice and expertise that we know is needed, as set out below. To ensure managers know what “good” looks like and what standards need to be met, the initiative is encouraging sign-up to their Worker Health Protection Management Standard. Developed specifically for the construction industry, this sets out good practice for managing health risks, to help raise standards and keep them high. To find out more and get involved visit www.breathefreely.org.uk Home of Curly Wurly to be developed National contractor Shaylor Group has announced being appointed as Principal Contractor on the £16 million refurbishment of former Cadbury headquarters Franklin House in Bournville. Working closely with developers Court Collaboration and local architects BPN, Shaylor Group will carry out the refurbishment works to convert the 1960s commercial office space into high-spec urban apartments, worth £6.4m of the overall budget. The project will see Franklin House, reportedly the birthplace of the Curly Wurly, developed into 79 one and two-bedroom apartments, including four penthouse suites featuring internal courtyards. The property will subsequently be re-branded as ‘The Franklin’, a collection of stylish modern residences, Go Yale! The Yale Lockmaster is now available on Door-Stop composite doors.
