36 MARCH 2015 PRO INSTALLER FROM THE INSIDE www.proinstaller.co.uk A DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN INSTALLER Three Elements of a Premium Quality Door Now, presuming you have found a unit of the right material, style and colour, Roto Frank suggest these are three of the most important benefits when manufacturing a door: 1. Security & Safety It is most people’s prime emotional concern: the feeling their home is adequately protected against intruders. However, as well as keeping unwanted visitors out, you also need a door that allows you to get outside quickly in the case of an emergency, a fire being the most likely imagined scenario. Visit the Roto webshop at www.roto-webshop.com 2. Sealing Keeping wind and rain and, in some cases, floodwater out of the home is obviously important. Plus, there is no point in having good thermal performance if the door isn’t kept permanently, tightly shut. A good weather seal also helps reduce noise, keeping out traffic sounds and whistles due to wind. 3. Long-term Reliability A door should be reliable for at least ten years, and can last much longer if properly maintained. Three sides to every door To be assured of those three benefits, you need to consider three aspects of the door. These are the locking side, the hinge side and the threshold. The first two have always been important of course, but that third one, the threshold has become increasingly relevant in recent times as more doors are specified in line with accessibility requirements. The Locking Side When it comes to door locks, no range of products would be complete without manually-activated, mechanical systems. Traditionally, these are either completely cylinder-operated, in which the user turns the key several times to lock or unlock the door; or they can be of the lift-lever type. These locks allow the user to lock the door by lifting the lever handle and then making one turn of the key. For cylinder-operated locks, the Roto Safe C range has all you need. However, if your customers would like to take advantage of the convenience of lift-lever operation, check out Roto Safe H. The Roto Door Safe A category includes all of the automatic multi-point locking systems for doors. By “automatic” we mean doors that lock themselves with minimal input from the user. An example of this is the Tandeo system, in which the main locking points on an entrance door all click shut in the manner of a central latch. This immediately provides a high level of protection against unauthorised entry. For night time locking, the cylinder can be used to further deadlock the system. Then of course there is the wide range of electromechanical options under the Door Safe E brand. With the Eneo C/CC system, you can lock and unlock a door without having to find your keys. The system can be configured using a one-click remote control, Bluetooth mobile phone connection and even fingerprint recognition as well as a PIN code keypad. For every cylinder requirement, there is the Roto Cyl-Tec range, which includes keyed-alike and knob-turn variants of all cylinders. Six-pin technology and 240,000 combinations are just two of the reasons why Roto cylinders comply with Grade 6 of the EN 1303 standard. ‘The level of attention to detail that has gone into the development of the Roto Eifel rang e is reflected in the range of Accessories available for the system’ The Hinge Side Any door is only as reliable and as secure as its hinges. Butt-type hinges may be seen as the more basic option, however the Roto Solid B range of butt hinges offer a number of benefits, especially for the installer. They are adjustable in three directions, and by just one person alone. They have pre-assembled parts to reduce installation time. For heavier-duty applications, there is the extensive Roto Solid S range of surface-mounted hinges. This includes models that can be used on doors up to 160 kg. Roto surface-mounted hinges are available for PVCu, aluminium and timber profiles. The Threshold Last but not least, everything for this area can be found in the Roto Eifel range of thresholds for barrier-free doors. Eifel T is the threshold for main entrance doors; Eifel TB works on Turn-Only terrace and balcony doors. As with all Roto door products, these thresholds are designed with both the fabricator and end user in mind. For the manufacturer, there are 15 installation depths to choose from, covering 40 to 140mm. Striker plates can be inserted straight in without having to modify the threshold profile. For the homeowner, the products provide resistance to driving rain and a high level of isothermal efficiency. They are also designed to reduce the risk of condensation forming around the base of the door. If weather-sealing is proving difficult to achieve, check out the Automatic FloorDoor Gasket Texel, which seals the threshold by moving downwards as the door is closed.
