OVER 30 YEARS

Lancashire-based marketing agency The
Image Works Ltd has revisited three
decades’ work for one of its longeststanding clients, The VEKA UK Group.
The German-owned company
is celebrating 30 years of
UK manufacturing, and The
Image Works MD Trevor Hind
recalled how it set up in
Burnley in 1986, near to his
company’s former studio in
Colne.
He said: “They had just four
extrusion lines then but their
international pedigree and UK
aspirations were clear.”
Archive editions of VEKA’s
periodical newsletter show the
company’s growth. Within ten
years of UK production starting,
the Burnley plant was turning out
11,000 tons per year – compared
to 1,748 tons in 1986.
VEKA worked with a number
of agencies – some national – to
establish itself as the ‘go-to’ name
for PVCu systems in the UK. The
Image Works helped with a series
of one-off brochure designs and
advertising concepts, and oversaw
the original Matrix 70 campaign,
the company’s most significant
product launch at the time.
Where VEKA’s marketing had
previously targeted only trade
customers, its tenth UK anniversary saw the advent of Network
VEKA – a pioneering installer
support organisation, with a
manifesto to redress lack of
public trust in home improvement
companies.
Trevor said: “The 1980s and
early 1990s saw PVCu systems become the new must-have addition
to the home but unscrupulous
traders had tarnished the industry’s reputation. From 20 founder
companies, Network VEKA membership now totals around 140.”
