56 JULY 2015 PRO INSTALLER ‘Lucky number 7’ Sliders UK has announced its sponsorship of British Superbike championship contender, David Haire. As main sponsor of Haire’s Ducati 119r Panigale for the 2015 season, Sliders UK’s brand will grace some of Britain’s most famous circuits including Brands Hatch, Silverston and Donnington Park. The championship also takes place at the 100,000 capacity TT Assen circuit, the Dutch ‘cathedral’ of motorcycle racing. With a 1200cc V-twin engine and reaching a top speed of 200mph, it makes Haire’s Sliders UK Ducati, the ‘fastest moving brand’ in the window industry. Mike Spain, Director, Sliders UK, said: “David is an exceptionally exciting young rider. “He was looking for sponsorship for the 2015 season and it seemed a fantastic opportunity for us to get our brand out there in one of the World’s leading motorcycle championships.” The 12 stage 2015 British Superbike Championship season began at Donnington Park in April and will culminate in a race at Brands Hatch on October 18. Former Adelaide Masters Supersport champion and reigning Enkalon trophy winner, the Northern Irish racer, said that he was delighted to have formed a partnership with Sliders UK. He said: “The link with such a well-respected company on the mainland has been fantastic. The partnership with Sliders UK has been a perfect opportunity to build my racing career but also for Sliders UK to establish its brand in the Superbike arena. “Sponsorship is hugely important; I simply couldn’t afford to race without it which is why I am so grateful for all the help and support Mike and Sliders UK have offered.” Getting stuck in for Stanley! Fans turned out in force for Accrington Stanley’s Ground Force weekend, all keen to get the club’s Store First Stadium in tip-top condition in time for the new season. Held over both days last weekend, the event saw a steady stream of volunteers turning up armed with their brooms, paint brushes and tool kits, with well over 50 there across the weekend. Among the army of volunteers was 66-yearold Diane Greenhalgh, of Westwood Street, Accrington, who has been helping out at her favourite football club for the past 15 years. “It’s true what they say,” said Diane, “many hands make light work!” Young pals from the 1st Oswaldtwistle St Paul’s Cub Scouts found they could combine having a fun day out at the football club with making progress towards their Community Challenge badge. McDonalds in Accrington donated staff time plus fruit and water to the event as part of its community commitment, while members of the Official Accrington Stanley Supporters Club, which organised the weekend, also took part. Nick Westwell, chairman of the supporters’ club, said: “There was goodwill in abundance and I want to thank everyone who came along and lent a hand. “We got a lot done and the icing on the cake is that people enjoyed it so much they were asking if they could come back another day and do some more! Because of that we’ve organised another Ground Force day on Sunday July 12th, from 9am to 4pm. “It’s the same formula, if you want to help get the ground looking its best, just turn up on the day. It doesn’t matter if you can only stay an hour or all day, we’ll be delighted to see you.” Refreshments will be provided for the volunteers and the club is particularly keen to hear from those with trade skills.
