16 JANUARY 2016 PRO INSTALLER PRO NEWS www.proinstaller.co.uk LABSS APPROVAL GRANTED The recently-introduced Celsius Solid Roof system from Synseal is now fully approved and registered by the LABSS (Local Authority Building Standards Scotland) as checked for compliance with Scottish Building Regulations under certificate number EWS550. Construction of a completely new solid roof or replacement of an existing conservatory roof with a retrofit solid roof involves a statutory obligation to submit a Building Regulations application. The scope of Synseal’s updated certificate number EWS550 now covers England, Wales and Scotland to facilitate mandatory legal technical compliance procedures for site locations in all three countries. The thermal performance specification to meet Scottish Building Regulations is more demanding and the required U-value of 0.15W/m2K (calculated to BS EN ISO 6946:2007) is achieved by supplementing Celsius Solid Roof’s standard Envirotile, breathable membrane and 142mm Kingspan TEK structural insulated panel roof assembly with a Kooltherm K18 insulated dry lining plasterboard internal finish to provide an additional non-bridged layer which is 42.5mm overall in element thickness. “The market opportunity for retro-fitting existing tired old conservatories is significant and our fast-fitting Celsius Solid Roof has a traditional all-timber core construction to provide a truly warm yet relatively lightweight structure that will not unduly stress existing conservatory window walling structures and foundations,” comments Synseal’s Head of Marketing, Mark Schlotel. “Celsius Solid Roof has been carefully designed to avoid excessive loadings and weighs the equivalent of our popular Global or K2 aluminium/PVCu conservatory roofs glazed with toughened roof glass.” www.synseal.com Switching Secures Customers North East Panels has switched to Avocet’s new ATK snap secure lock. The Washington-based company, which produces over 400 completed door units per week will be fitting the new TS007 3-star rated and SS312 Diamond accredited Euro cylinder on all of its Secured by Design doors with immediate effect. In addition, Avocet’s Affinity door handle is now being fitted as standard on all its SBD doors and its bar handles are to be used across all doors. Jimmy Wood, North East Panels’ national sales man- ‘selecting a new supplier was straightforward’ ager, said: “Having made the difficult decision to switch suppliers, the job of selecting a new one was straightforward.” Key among these products was Avocet’s new ATK lock. Designed to deliver the ultimate protection against lock-snapping, ATK features Avocet’s patented locking cam system, which secures against common forms of attack such as snapping, bumping and drilling. The new range also includes one of the only Sold Secure and Secured by Design rated thumbturn locks on the market. Incorporating Avocet’s new click secure system, it makes use of a positive click turn action, which means it can’t be bypassed with the wire tools that make a great deal of other thumbturns a major security risk. ATK also comes with a standard key, which allows all leading locksmiths to produce them quickly and easily, and end-user registration is not required. www.avocet-hardware.co.uk
