6 JANUARY 2015 PRO INSTALLER PRO NEWS www.proinstaller.co.uk No Way Through Phoenix Doors’ foam-cured composite door showed its strength when a fire crew needed to enter a home in a hurry. Having been called to this smoke-filled Derbyshire home following a 999 call and on getting no response from the occupants, they had to cut through the door using a saw to gain access. Fortunately no one was in at the time, but the house was badly-damaged in the fire, caused by an electrical fault, and the door was completely destroyed. “Thankfully no one was hurt in this incident, but it certainly demonstrated the strength and quality of our door, not to mention the quality of the handle and hinges,” commented Haydon Statham, Sale Director of Phoenix Doors, part of the MASCO UK Window Group Ltd. “We use current up-to-date materials in the construction of our doors, such as a 3mm thick through-colour GRP skin wrapped around the sub-frame. This makes them very robust. A door is only as strong as the sum of its parts and in this instance, the door performed to the highest standards we expect. Not only that, its foam core has the added benefit of being very thermally-efficient compared to alternatives on the market today,” added Haydon. Wayne Cooper, Managing Director of Derbyshire-based U Value Ltd, said: “We’d only installed the door six weeks earlier. Sledgehammers didn’t touch it, so in an emergency, the only way in for the fire team was to cut out a big hole and step through.” A former fulltime firefighter for 28 years before setting up his company, Wayne added: “I’ve had to break through many doors in the past during my old job, but in this instance, it took a lot longer!” Contact Phoenix Doors on 01487 740469, email info@ phoenixdoorpanels.co.uk or visit the website at www.phoenixdoorpanels. co.uk GRP door sales continue to grow Phoenix Doors, part of the MASCO UK Window Group Ltd, has reported record-breaking sales of its GRP composite doors and PVCu doo r panels in the final quarter of 2014. Sales last October were the highest recorded in the firm’s 21-year history. The Cambridgeshire-based manufacturer regularly produces more than 600 composite doors per week with door panel production averaging around 1,350 per week. Demand for panels continues to hold steady, according to Haydon Statham, Sales Director of Phoenix Doors. He comments: “Last November was not as high a figure as October because it was three working days shorter; but incoming orders on a daily basis were actually higher than in October. ‘further expenditure planned throughout 2015’ “October 2014 has broken all records with the biggest-ever sales figures for one month in the company’s history. It’s fair to say it was the best run-up to Christmas ever, and these record sales levels have been matched by record production performance. Our employees in both composite and panel production deserve the utmost praise for their hard work in helping to make this happen. “Selling has been an absolute pleasure in these busy times, knowing that with the right back-up the doors have been and will be delivered at the right time and at the right quality,” continues Haydon. He points out that recent investment by the Group in the form of new plant and equipment has also contributed to this success, with further expenditure planned throughout 2015, including a new paint line. Haydon adds: “Phoenix Doors continues to prosper under MASCO’s ownership and we’re looking forward to continuing growth throughout 2015 and beyond.” Contact Phoenix Doors on 01487 740469, email info@ phoenixdoorpanels.co.uk or visit phoenixdoorpanels.co.uk
