CITY LINK ADMINISTRATION CHAOS
On Christmas Eve, parcel courier and delivery company, City Link went in to administration; a move that not only had
a devastating effect on City Link employees and their families, but will inevitably have affected many tradespeople.
Many component
suppliers and distributors will have relied
on City Link to support
deliveries for their
businesses. With the
festive period over and
normal trading resuming, customers will be
expecting deliveries for
goods ordered to start
or complete jobs.
Suppliers or distributors
who relied on the National
based courier Company, will
now have to enter into new
talks with other delivery
services; negotiating new
rates and discounts or how
they will integrate with EDI
systems, all of which will
prove difficult, time consuming and could result in
delays to customers.
City Link has released the
following statement:
“On 24 December 2014
City Link Limited was
placed into Administration
and Hunter Kelly, Charles
King and Tom Lukic of EY
were appointed joint administrators.
“The business has ceased
to accept new parcels from
customers and its depots
will remain open for a short
period of time to enable
customers or intended
recipients to collect par-
cels. Those customers who
placed parcels with City
Link on Christmas Eve for
delivery are urged to go to
the depot to retrieve their
parcels as soon as possible.
Any intended recipients
who have been notified of
a failed delivery are also
urged to go to the depot to
collect their parcel as soon
as possible. The depots
will reopen following the
Christmas holiday break on
Monday 29 December 2014
to enable parties to collect
parcels.
“City Link will no longer
be able to deliver any further parcels and customers
on Saturday 27 December
and from Monday 29th
December.”
Those with parcels outstanding have been told to
locate their own parcels and
collect it from the appropriate City Link depot.
‘Those with parcels outstanding have
been told to locate their own parcels’
are urged to make alternative arrangements for future
deliveries.
“The online system to
access parcel tracking and
therefore check on the
whereabouts of your parcel
is still live and should be
used to identify if you need
to collect your parcel and
where it is located. In addition, the normal help line
telephone numbers remain
live and they will be open

Global
Invasion
in Burnley
Heads of the global arms of multinational
PVCu window manufacturer, The VEKA
Group, came together in the UK during
December 2014, for the company’s
annual General Managers Meeting.
The 14-strong party met at
The VEKA UK Group’s Burnley HQ, being treated to a
tour of its £5m state-ofthe-art mixing plant before
adjourning to discuss worldwide Group updates and
examples of best practice.
The VEKA Group, a family-owned German company,
first established its UK presence,
VEKA plc, back in 1986, concurrently expanding throughout
other areas of the globe to now
boast 25 subsidiaries over three
continents with around 5,000 employees. The company is one of
the world’s leading PVCu systems
suppliers, working with around
2,200 specialist window, door and
conservatory businesses globally,
and has a turnover of over €1
billion.
Group Chairman, Mr Hartleif
was present alongside his wife,
Mrs Hartleif, an Executive Board
member and daughter of The
VEKA Group founder. Other delegates came from the UK, Russia
and the Ukraine, Poland, France
and Spain, North and South
America, and China as well as the
head of VEKA Recycling which is
responsible for the development
of the company’s pioneering
Infinity product that combines
virgin profile performance with
recycled materials.
MD of The VEKA UK Group,
Dave Jones commented: “The
GMM is a great opportunity to
share what’s going on within the
global VEKA family, especially for the host nation. Many of
the attendees had only seen the
Burnley mixing plant in photos since its official opening by
Business Secretary, Vince Cable,
in 2013. It was our first chance
to demonstrate our most recent
product innovations, such as our
Imagine range of flush-finish
Bi-fold and French doors that are
now on display in our brand new
showroom.”
