4 FEBRUARY 2014 PRO INSTALLER PRO NEWS www.proinstaller.co.uk SGGUK’S TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME DELIVERS G13 WIN Continuing the company’s winning streak – it picked up the 2011 Retail Promotional Campaign of the year award – Saint-Gobain Glass UK has been presented with the Training & Development Initiative of the Year trophy at the G13 ceremony. The G-Awards judges decided that SGGUK’s ‘MKT2’ (Manufacturing Knowhow through Transfer & Training) online training system, designed specifically for the company, was a worthy winner. Although it is used throughout SaintGobain Glass’ 36 glass plants across the world, the UK plant in Eggborough is the leader of the project with its modules used as templates worldwide. The MKT2 program allows flexibility for the company’s operators and its continuous improvement philosophy is what sets it apart from other training programs. The company’s people train monthly enabling operational insight to be quickly shared across all shifts. Evaluations and feedback are a key part of the learning cycle as they can check knowledge retention and identify training gaps. Evaluations are built into MKT2 as all operators take an ‘Initial evaluation’ before starting training on a new skill and once finished training, they retake this evaluation. www.saint-gobain.co.uk. SYNSEAL’S IMPROVED PATIO DOORS WILL BOOST INSTALLATION AND PERFORMANCE Synseal’s popular patio doors have benefited from a series of profile design improvements in preparation for the 2014 home refurbishment season. In response to customer feedback, a new fitterfriendly J-bead has been introduced to make site glazing of Synseal patio doors both easier and quicker. The PVC-U patio sliding sash profile has been redesigned with an internal web added to create a triple-chambered design for greater thermal efficiency. This also improves the U-value for a standard patio glazed with 28mm double glass including aluminium spacer bar from 1.6 W/m2K down to 1.5 W/m2K. The central chamber houses a 2mm steel reinforcement to give increased rigidity and an external drainage slope has been added to efficiently route rainwater to the concealed drainage slots and optimise weather performance. While patio doors with external sliding sashes will always remain the most popular specification, an internal slider option has now been added to cater for occasional market demand. The new improvements are completed by low threshold options in thermally-broken aluminium, to provide a comprehensive range of access solutions for Synseal patio doors. Available in a choice of Gold or Silver anodised finish, these sturdy aluminium low thresholds can be selected with an internal trim and external ramp, as well as ramp/ ramp and trim/trim configurations. Compared to a standard PVC-U sill, the new low threshold designs lower the step-over height by 47.5mm, ensuring ease of access for all the family. Mark Schlotel, Synseal’s Head of Marketing, commented: “These profile design improvements which were introduced from February 3rd 2014 and are certain to be welcomed by all our many patio door customers, from bar length fab &
