Van users who think fuel cards are just about refuelling are missing a trick or two, according to Steve Clarke. He said: “A van user should realise that discount fuel is just the first reason for using fuel cards. Having the right fuel cards should open up a wide range of other useful benefits.” The VEKA UK Group was proud to support Burnley MP Gordon Birtwistle’s Prostate Scanner Appeal at Burnley’s recent match against Sheffield Wednesday. The industry-leading systems supplier sponsored T-shirts to raise awareness of the appeal which were worn by the players while they warmed up. The distinctive blue shirts were also worn by volunteers who did a bucket collection during the match. Proceeds from the Clarets lottery during the match also went toward the scanner appeal. VEKA’s Head of Human Resources Gabriela Hammond explains: “The T-shirts were a great way to let people know what the collection was for. It made the volunteers easy to spot and, as a result, we’ve been told that a fantastic £4341 was raised on the day. We were delighted to show our support and raise awareness for such a valuable local cause - but without the generosity of the Burnley fans it wouldn’t have meant a thing. They’ve really outdone themselves and they should be very proud.” All money raised will go towards buying a replacement prostate scanner for the Steve Clarke is well qualified to comment, being marketing manager for The Fuelcard People, a Fuel Card Group company. Estimates suggest that more than 120,000 eye injuries occur each year in the UK and the majority of these happen at work. Slingsby supplies more than 35,000 workplace products across all industries including an extensive range of eye wash facilities and eye protection products. Lee Wright, Marketing Director of the firm, explains: “Our eyes are hugely valuable and extremely delicate so it is vitally important that workers take all the right precautions where their eyes are concerned. Although anyone can suffer an eye injury, regardless of what industry they work in, there are many jobs where the risks increase significantly. People handling hazardous liquids and anyone using tools to chop ‘Different types of goggles and glasses required for individual hazards’ or cut materials face obvious dangers and have to be extremely careful. “In many work environments eye protection is mandatory under the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations but it can be confusing.
