Scheme Is An
Opportunity To
Take A Step Up
The Safety Ladder
Workplace equipment
supplier, Slingsby, has
joined forces with The
Ladder Association to
launch the UK’s seventh
Ladder Exchange Campaign, which aims to rid
businesses across all
industries of damaged
and dangerous ladders.
The Ladder Exchange
scheme offers substantial
savings on a wide range of
brand new ladders when
they are part exchanged
for ladders and stepladders
that are broken or unsafe.
The scheme ends on 31st
December 2013.
Dominic Slingsby is Managing Director of Slingsby,
which sells more than
35,000 workplace products
including a wide range of
ladders and access solu-
tions. He explains: “Falls
from height are still one of
the most common causes
of accidents and fatalities at
work and with an estimated
two million ladders in use
every day in UK workplaces,
it’s imperative that people
wake up to the risks of
using a dodgy ladder. Even
falling just a few feet off a
stepladder can often have
serious consequences.
“In recent years the Ladder Exchange Scheme has
helped to remove more than
10,000 broken ladders from
all types of workplaces and
many have had rungs missing and been unstable so
there’s no doubt it’s prevented countless accidents.”
“It’s well-worth any businesses that have ladders
that are not up to scratch

they’ll make a saving on a

reduce the chances of an
accident happening in their
workplace.”

PRO Installer has teamed up with celebrity builder Craig Philips to cover industry topics relevant to you.
Before capturing the nation’s hearts
to win the first series of Big Brother, Craig Phillips was a successful
self-made entrepreneur who ran a
construction business throughout
the 1990’s. Craig’s expertise and
warm personality has seen him become one of the most sought after
construction and DIY experts on
television and he is also the ambassador for leading Swedish workwear
provider Blåkläder.
This month Craig is looking at choosing
the right workwear for the colder, darker
days…
“The Summer months have passed and the
cold has crept in meaning it’s time to review
your workwear. It’s vital that your clothing
not only protects you but is also comfortable, warm and durable.
“High visibility clothing is essential for
workers up and down the country who provide vital services in harsh conditions and
dangerous environments. The importance of
this type of clothing cannot be overstated:
it protects hard-working people on a daily
basis. It’s extremely important as the dark

nights draw in and lighting turns poor. High
vis clothing should be certified to EN standard EN471, a legal requirement that ensures
the garments protect the wearer from dangers to life or permanent injury.
“When working hard it’s important to keep
warm and dry whilst still being efficient
and layering up is a great way of doing this.
On your first layer you should have a good
undergarment to help absorb moisture and
wick it away. This will help to regulate the
body’s temperature. The next layer is insulation; as the temperature drops this layer
helps to maintain your body heat through
the use of a flannel shirt or fleece garment.
The final layer is protection. This is the
shield that protects you from cold, rain and
wind. Look for outerwear with hidden cuffs,
snow locks over zips, fleece lining and a zip
all the way up to the collar.
“A waterproof jacket is absolutely invaluable in wet a
