54 APRIL 2016 PRO INSTALLER PRO BUSINESS www.proinstaller.co.uk LUMI WOWS THE CROWDS IN BELFAST New look PAS 24 widens scope for products According to Apeer, the recent Selfbuild and Improve Your Home Exhibition in Belfast was the busiest and most exciting to date, attracting over 18,000 visitors to a new venue at the Titanic Exhibition Centre. The consumer facing show marked the first official launch of the G-15 award-winning Lumi system in Ireland, and the company seized the opportunity to unveil the full range of its cutting edge ‘frameless’ products. Apeer’s marketing manager, Linda Tomb, said: “The reaction we had from trade customers and consumers alike was just fantastic. Homeowners loved the frameless windows and many came back for a second look. They were also just as impressed by the energy efficiency performance as the aesthetics. “There was plenty of interest in our Lumi bi-folds as well, with visitors telling us they loved the stylish yet sturdy looks, and also how easy they were to open and close. The Lumi doors we had on display were much admired too.” Apeer also introduced potential trade customers to the products and to its dealer network. “The network is designed to generate pull through demand from consumers and comes with unrivalled levels of support from our inhouse technical and sales team,” explained Linda. Business standards company British Standards Institution (BSI) has revised PAS 24 ‘Enhanced security performance requirements for doorsets and windows in the UK.’ Apeer has since signed up for the next Selfbuild and Improve Your Home Exhibition in Dublin from the 9th to 11th of September 2016. In the meantime, final preparations are underway for Apeer’s next ‘show stopping’ stand at the International Centre, Telford, for the FIT Show, where the full range of Lumi products will be on Stand 208, Hall 2. PARTY TIME FOR SUPER SEAL Northern Ireland-based Profile 22 customer Super Seal is celebrating 25 years in business. The company opened its doors in 1990 during the double glazing boom when local businessman Kenneth Taylor spotted a distinct lack of quality PVCu window and door products in the local area. He and his team set up shop in a small premises in Castledawson making 50 frames a week. Now a leader in PVCu window and door manufacture and installation, Super Seal manufactures more than 2,000 frames per week from orders received through four sites across Northern Ireland. “Despite our rapid growth, we made sure to remain true to our core ethos,” explained Managing Director Kenneth Taylor. “We value the individuals who helped us grow and this is reflected in every aspect of the business.” Initially manufacturing traditional PVCu wi ndows and doors, Super Seal has grown to specialise in producing an array of PVCu products, including fully reversible windows for the housing executive market. The business has now opened a new composite door factory in Lurgan. “More recently we added aluminium windows, doors and bi-folding doors to our range,” said Kenneth. “We’ll also be launching an exciting new product at FIT Show 2016.” The customer focused supplier will host three nights of celebrations with its north and south customers to mark hitting 25 years. It already held celebrations last year in Enniskillen, Cork, and Dublin. The events gave Super Seal the opportunity to tell customers about the new range of niche products Profile 22 will reveal at this year’s FIT Show. The specification is a way of testing and assessing enhanced security performance requirements of doorsets and windows – in order to resist attacks associated with the casual burglar. The new look PAS 24:2016 has a number of changes. Some test methods have been simplified, and there is a single option to ensure all doorsets can be used with easy egress hardware. The scope is also wider, increasing the range of security doorsets and windows to be covered. Additionally, the document addresses the requirement for easy egress from all new build dwellings instigated by the National House Building Council (NHBC), by ensuring all doorsets are suitable for use with thumb turn cylinders and other easy egress hardware. Anthony Burd, Head of Sector, Built Environment at BSI said: “This revised version should mean more products can use this important option to demonstrate compliance, affording further peace of mind for suppliers, installers and customers.” PAS 24: 2016 was developed using a collaborative approach involving such organisations as the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), the Association of Composite Door manufacturers, the Door and Hardware Federation, and the MLA.
