Montgomery Catholic Names Principals
Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School has named Nancy Foley principal at the Holy Spirit Elementary Campus and Justin Castanza as principal for grades 7-12 .
Montgomery Catholic Places in MathCounts Competition
Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School competed in the MathCounts competition on Friday , February 3 , 2017 . Held at Faulkner University , Montgomery Catholic had eight students participate . The MCPS team of Brian Povilus , Zach Izer , Sadie Bartels and Catherine Aaron came in 3rd place , with their teammates Hall Triplett and Brian Povilus , tying for 10th place . Students Emily Riggles , James Yorton and Thea Haynes made up the rest of the Knights MathCounts team . The team sponsors were math teachers Mrs . Julie Flowers and Mrs . Tricette Savage . Congratulations to these Mathletes !
Foley has served as a fourth-grade teacher at the Holy Spirit campus since it opened in 2012 , and has 33 years of teaching experience in Catholic , public and magnet schools . Foley received a degree in Elementary Education from the University of South Alabama and holds a masters degree in Elementary Education from Troy University - Montgomery . Foley is married to Mark and they are members of Holy Spirit Parish . Foley will assume her new duties July 1 , 2017 .
“ I am pleased to announce that we are changing Mr . Castanza ’ s title from interim to Principal . He has done an amazing job this year with our students , faculty and parents , providing many novel and rich experiences for all .” said school president Anne Ceasar .
A 2001 graduate of Montgomery Catholic , Castanza received his undergraduate degree in Secondary Education and his Counselor Education masters degree in Student Affairs from Mississippi State . Castanza acted as the Associate Executive Director of the YMCA ’ s Camp Chandler for five years , he was a teacher and Dean of Students at Montgomery Catholic ’ s High School campus before acting as interim principal this academic year . Castanza is married to Meghan ; they have two children , Vincent and Natalie . They are active members of St . Bede the Venerable Parish in Montgomery .
Montgomery Academy Students Remodel Tech Center
After two weeks of hard work , planning , designing , painting and constructing , The Montgomery Academy Advanced Engineering class has fully remodeled the hallway to reflect the purpose of the Caddell Technology Center . On display is a large hologram designed and built by students , various hanging projects and 3D printer objects that students have accomplished as well as a wall of pictures of the class throughout the year .
Jason St . Amand , Upper School Technology teacher said , “ What ’ s great about this project is that it was 99 % student-accomplished . It is imperfect , but it is theirs and has room for improvements , additions and changes as more projects and classes come through the Caddell Technology Center .”
Prattville High Holds Annual Unity Program
Prattville High School held their annual Unity Program on February 28 . The theme was “ We are United ” with the thought that “ It starts with you . If not you , then who ?” Organized by several teachers and staff , the program consisted of a variety of student participants . The speaker this year was senior Joshua Works who shared that a large part of being united is understanding who you are . Students performed dances from different cultures or genres , read poetry , while some gave instrumental and vocal performances . JROTC performed an exhibition as well . The assembly brought the students together , showing that they are ready to be united and appreciate their peers ’ talents .
