Math Essay
Approximately half of the Math section
covers algebra- study up on your systems
of equations and graphing! Trigonome-
try? Not quite as prominent. There will
be a maximum of 6 Trig questions in the
math section. Though the essay is optional, it’s recom-
mended that you opt-in to write it. Many
colleges and universities require it for
admission.
(Optional, but recommended)
TIP: Don’t forget to bring your calcula-
tor! A graphing calculator is not needed,
but can be used as long as it does not
have a QWERTY keyboard.
58 multiple choice questions
TIP: Avoid writing about your own
opinions! You may have a strong stance
on the content of your prompt, but the
SAT essay graders do not care that you’re
passionately angry because Leonardo
DiCaprio has only been awarded one
Oscar (that could be a passage topic...
right?). They only want you to analyze the
argument that the author has built.
